   आने वाला राष्ट्रपति चुनाव कौन जीतता है इससे वैश्विक आतंकवाद के विरुद्ध युद्ध की दिशा निर्धारित होगी . वीकली स्टैन्डर्ड के फ्रेड बारनेस के अनुसार जार्ज बुश 12 सितंबर के व्यक्ति हैं जबकि जॉन केरी 10 सितंबर के व्यक्ति हैं . जिस प्रकार दिसम्बर में सद्दाम हुसैन की गिरफ्तारी से हावर्ड डीन के राष्ट्रपति पद के प्रत्याशी बनने पर प्रभाव पड़ा . उसी प्रकार बिन लादेन का पकड़ा जाना सिनेटर केरी को प्रभावित कर सकता है .ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि केरी ने आतंकवाद के विरुद्ध युद्ध के तरीके की आलोचना करते हुए इसे आधुनिक इतिहास की सबसे दिशाहीन विदेश नीति बताया है . केरी तो यह भी दावा करते हैं कि अमेरिका की स्थिति 11 सितंबर 2001 से भी बुरी हो चुकी है. केरी ऐसी आलोचनाओं के शीर्ष पर बिन लादेन के पकड़े जाने या मारे जाने को रख देते हैं . इससे बिन लादेन को पकड़ा जाना या मारा जाना युद्ध का एक आपातकालीन विषय बन जाता है .
